I have something to say about this. As an undergraduate putting my husband through graduate school and with a child I took advantage of the welfare system. My baby and myself were on Medicaid and out family used food stamps. We are now both academics with/pursuing graduate degrees and are paying in to the system which helped us get to the place we are now.
